Why go
Maya Bay is the bay most Phi Phi day trips from Phuket are sold on. The visit has changed: boats no longer enter the bay, you walk in from the other side of the island, swimming is forbidden, and the bay closes for two months every year.
Not for you if you want to swim there.
What you will find
Koh Phi Phi Leh lies south of Koh Phi Phi Don, in the same national park. Boats land at a pontoon at Loh Samah, on the other side of the island, and a wooden boardwalk takes you to the beach in five to ten minutes.
Visits run in slots of about an hour, with at most 375 people at a time. Day-trip listings pair the bay with Pileh Lagoon and Viking Cave.
Getting there
By boat only, on a Phi Phi day trip from Phuket. Most leave from the east-coast marinas, some from Chalong, and last 8 to 11 hours door to door. According to one guide, standard trips reach Maya Bay between about 9.30 and 11 am, and trips that leave at dawn arrive first.
Before you go
Maya Bay closes every year from 1 August to 30 September, with the neighbouring bays of Loh Samah and Loh Ko, and reopens on 1 October; it reopened on 1 October 2026. Phi Phi trips keep running in those months and see the bay from the water, or skip it.
Swimming is forbidden: you can get your feet wet, no more.
The park fee, 400 baht for a foreign adult and 200 baht for a child, is often left out of cheaper day trips and then paid in cash on the day: ask before you book.
