Why go
For a moment of calm in the Old Town: a small, quiet family shrine, tucked away from the street, that is easy to walk past without noticing.
Not for you if you are looking for a big monument: it is small.
What you will find
This is the Saeng Tham shrine, reached by a passage from Phang Nga Road through a large Chinese gate. It is a family shrine founded in the late 19th century by a Hokkien family. Entry is free; donations are asked for.
The story
Sources date the shrine to 1889 or 1891. Until a large gate was added on Phang Nga Road in 2010, it was reached only by a narrow passage, according to one guide.
Getting there
On foot, from Phang Nga Road in the Old Town. On a walk, take it on the way back from Krabi Road towards Jui Tui Shrine.
Before you go
It is a place of worship: modest clothes, and a quiet voice. We found opening hours in only one source, so do not plan a visit around a precise time.
