Why go

If you are in Phuket on a Sunday, this is the evening to spend in the Old Town: street food from the south of Thailand, crafts and street performers, in the island's best-looking street.

Not for you if you dislike crowds: it gets very full between 6 and 9 pm. Come at 4 pm, before the peak.

What you will find

Stalls go up in the early afternoon along roughly 360 m of Thalang Road, spilling into Phang Nga Road. They sell southern Thai street food, crafts, prints, textiles and souvenirs, with music and performances along the way. Mee hokkien is the dish guides name here; most dishes cost about 30 to 80 baht, according to one guide.

In 2023, the Bangkok Post estimated some 20,000 people every Sunday in a street designed for about half that.

Getting there

In the Old Town of Phuket Town, by road from the west-coast beaches. Parking is the hard part: arrive before 5 pm and park outside the closed streets, for example at Wat Mongkol Nimit, a few minutes' walk away (paid, and it fills first), or at Limelight Avenue.

Before you go

It is on Sunday only. We found no source saying whether it pauses in the low season; it has run extra editions around the New Year in the past.

Do not confuse it with the Naka weekend market, south of Phuket Town, on Saturday and Sunday, or with Chillva Market, which is closed on Sunday.
